Hustler Hotel
I needed to build a shelter for the new Hustler riding mower.
Purpose

Purpose

Hustler zero turn 34 inch rider.
Needed to protect from elements.

Envisioned a lean to structure built off the north east corner of the shop...downhill from the shop deck.

The horizontal slat wall will reduce view of the mower, hold tools and yard art, and the roof will keep rain off of the mower.
Site Prep
The shop deck was quite weathered...
I tore off the deck boards.
The string marks the approximate location of the expanded gravel area.
This image from the first deck build shows the problem stump...
Sinking ground exposed some of the stump again...so I had to cut out stump below grade to clear a leveled area that will be the location of the upper and out concrete floating pier.

I installed new 5/4 deck boards.
Build
Three treated wood 2 x 4 ledger boards were attached to the shop.

James and I determined the height of the middle ledger board...it sets the height of all of the construction.
We made sure that the height of this board provided a six foot clearance at the entrance header.
The ledger boards (shown here in green) had frame 2 x 4s (in pink) screwed to the ends of the ledgers.

The ledger boards and the frame end pieces.
The outer-uphill post and pier was set by making it coplanar with the front edge of the deck and fixed at the same distance from the side edge of the deck.
Once the uphill-outer post and pier was set...we set the location of the downhill-outer post
After locating the post and sawing the lap joint on the top edge of the post...the post was put into place and will be connected with a frame joist and front header support.
The side rafter angle cuts were assessed in Sketchup at 10.6° and a real world measurement was 10.5°
I cut the angles on the chop saw at 11°

The upper end of the 73.5 inch rafter was to be secured with pocket screws...they were drilled on the Kreg Jig...supported due to it being a solo day.
The pocket screws on the uphill rafter and the uphill frame side.
The entrance end of the rafter was secured with an angle plate and 1.25 inch screws.
The two outer rafters installed...
The inner rafter had to have a two inch spacer at the top so that the angles would be the same...
The Hustler was brought in for a dry fit...needed to make sure that the locations of mid pier and posts  would not obstruct the handles of the Hustler in the park position.
After dry fit...we decided to eliminate the downhill slat screen...and we decided not to use the downhill middle pier and post.

So we dry fit the uphill post and marked off for the horizontal frame piece and for the rafter.
The post was crosscut with circular saw...
Ripped at the bandsaw and then chopped 11°
post installed...
Ondura panel were installed...
started attaching the horizontal boards...
Slat screen installed
Hustler in the house...
Downhill view...gravel walk will be completed next spring.
