Handworks 2015

There were three building used for the Handworks exhibition. The main venue was the Festhalle Barn.
The event was well attended...we avoided the early morning wait lines because on Friday a.m. we went to the Studley exhibit and on Saturday we went to AJ's Copper Garden till the lines disappeared.

Inside the Festhalle was a melange of vendors, exhibitors and throngs of woodworking geeks.

In the Festhalle Barn...

Anderson Planes, Bad Axe Tools, Benchcrafted, Blue Spruce Toolworks, Blum Tool Co. Brese Plane, Czeck Edge Hand Tool, Daed Toolworks, David Barron Elkhead Tools, Hamilton Woodworks, Hock Tools, Jeff Miller Fine Furniture, Knew Concepts, Lake Erie toolworks, Lie-Nielsen Toolworks, Lost Art Press, M. S. Bickford, Old Street Tool, Patrick Leach, Philly Planes, Plate 11 Bench Co., Sauer and Steiner, Scott Meek Woodworks, Tools for Working Wood, Veritas Tools, Vesper Tools, Vogt Toolworks.

Some of my favorites in the Festhalle...

I met Lee Marshall of Knew Concepts...

Met Dave Jeske from Blue Spruce Toolworks...tried out several tools
...ordered a knife and three dovetail paring chisels...as always, Dave's tools are a joy to use and are perferct...right out of the box...the box itself is a great product. Dave is first class.

My favorite purchases Handworks were signature try square and bevel gauge plus two marking knives that I got from Australian Chris Vesper from Vesper Tools.

Got to meet Marco Terenzi and see his miniature Anarchist Toolchest...along with several other miniatures.

I have long admired his work...image is from his website...

Lie-Nielsen had a large and fancy display on a raised stage at the end of the Festhalle.

Deneb Pulchaski was doing demonstrations.

I spent little time here due to crowd.

Ron Hock and Linda from Hock Tools were super nice.

Ron signed my copy of his book "The Perfect Edge".

Cindy and I bought a couple of paring knife kits from Linda.

Tools for Working Wood from Brooklyn was showing their Gramercy Tools.

TFWW had a nice display.

Met Joel Moskevitz...he signed my copy of "The Joiner and Cabinet Maker".

Lee Valley and Veritas Tools had a huge number of tools in very nice display units...I spent very little time here due to space and the overwhelming number of people...

One of my disappointments was that I wan not able to meet Mark Harrell of Bad Axe Tool Works.

His corner of the Barn was always packed...I went back by several times...just no way to get to him...guys were ordering his custom saws in droves...

Patrick Leach's vintage tools just went on and on...
and on...
and on...
and on...
and out into the yard...

Lost Art Press...picked up my pre-purchased copy of "Virtuoso"...names abounded...here is roy Underhill during a signing session. I went by several times but never was able to meet Christopher Schwarz.

Roy gave a featured talk "Calypso's Gift" on Saturday a.m.

Cindy and I did not attend...video is here...

David Barron demonstrated his dovetail guide system. He was clearly the most laid back man at Handworks.

I purchased 1 : 4 and 1 : 6 guides.

The guys that created Handworks...

Jameel Abraham and Father John Abraham of Benchcrafted Tools.

In the foreground is a Moxon vise kit...

Met Bob Zajicek of Czeck Tools from Georgia.

A large open air venue was the Greenwood Barn

In the Greenwood Barn...

Jarrod Stone Dahl, Peter Ross, Claire Minihan, Lee and Lindsay Lee, Jim Sannerud, Tim Manney, Don Weber, Greg Pennignton, and Peter Galbert

Due to heat and parking issues, Cindy and I skipped this building...I wanted to see Peter Galbert but the situation was just not right...most of the show in this facility was green wood working and chair making...neither a major appeal to me. There was so much to do and see, something had to go...this was it...

A small venue was in a part of the Amana Furniture buildings.

In the Amana Furniture Shop...

Blackburn Tools, Strazza's Heritage School of Woodworking, Jim Van Hoven, Mary May's School of Traditional Carving, Mike Siemsen's School of Woodworking, Sterling Toolworks

My stop here included meeting Chris Kuehn of Sterling Toolworks...bought a 1:6 dovetail marker and a leather sling to hold my two Sterling markers.
A cool deal in the Shop...Mike Siemsen on a pedal driven scroll saw...going to town...
