Drainage System

West side of shop
This drain runs alongside the west end of the shop. Water drops into a 9 x 9 drain along the slope between the back porch and the shop.

Water from the drain enters 4 inch corrugated pipe. This water is joined by runoff from the west end of the shop front gutter.

The basin line and the gutter downspout line merge into a Y connection. The corrugated pipe then converts to a perforated French Drain line.

goes through the fence, and empties into the open, concreted storm drain system.

The perforated, sleeved, corrugated 4 inch pipe is in a trench with gravel. This runs downhill to the north, running beneath the gravel walkway and avoiding the power line to the shop.

Major roots from the oak tree prevented the drain pipe from being as deep as desired. But the steep downhill run made drainage simple. I backfilled over the french drain pipe with pea gravel.

I cut out a section of the a board that allows the drain to continue through the fence. and empties into the open, concreted storm drain system.

I created a box to keep the pipe in place and provide protection. The line then empties into the open, concreted storm drain system.

East side of house

This drain system runs alongside the east side of the house.
Water drain field starts at the new driveway extension. The water drops into a channel grate that runs along the east side of the slab.

Water then enters into a 12 x 12 drain box. The connection is PVC.

The line that runs to the west allows for future expansion of the drainage runoff.

Water from the drain basin enters 4 inch corrugated pipe. This water will be joined by runoff from two lines from the uphill, eastern slope of the neighbor's yard.

Then the line becomes a perforated, sleeved, corrugated 4 inch pipe in a trench with gravel. This runs north, , goes under the fence, and exits into the open, concreted, storm drain system.

French drain update...2014

The banana tree destroyed the French drain pipe...the roots grew into the pipe and shut it off...this clogged the entire run and water overflowed at the driveway again...we removed about 8 foot of the drain and Cindy removed the banana tree.

Cindy cleared out the roots and we removed about 8 feet of pipe...we struggled coming up with a plan to clear out the clog...then we noticed that small amount of dirt came out of the pipe each rain...we decided to let nature take its course and sure enough a big rain cleared the pipe...so we replaced the 4 inch pipe
We put a sleeve on the pipe to keep dirt out...
We added a drain box...and we will work to reroute water along the fence...
Sod install: 2016...after having an oak tree removed we had to sod parts of the yard...we edged the area with stones and then covered this corner with sod...
