Parf Fence Setup
Parf Fence Setup
I became very unhappy with issues surrounding the Festool guide rail system...with the tilting swivel units for the guide rail. I purchased a
600mm Parf fence from Axminster Tools.
The Parf dogs, Parf fence,
etc. are named for inventor, Peter Parfitt.
See his videos on New
Brit Workshop on YouTube.

Previously I had issues with the swivel units...replaced some hardware... |
|
The replacement parts solved the immediate problems
but I still found them difficult to keep solidly square rail
alignment. |
|
Tried a "Slop Stop" from
Delrin...some relief but still not acceptable. |
|
Pulled the swivel units.
|
|
Began
experimenting... using Parf dogs to align rail squarely. After testing this method and researching options, I decided to move to this type of rail setup. |

To use the rail without the
Festool swivel units...I ordered UJK Parf fence and stop, rail
clips and Parf Super Dogs from Axminster. Will create a square rail fence setup similar to this. |
|
The milled fence is 600
mm long, 40 mm wide and 10 mm thick...
|
|
The stop rides in grooves that run along the sides...
The beveled edges of the holes allow the dogs to sit flush...
The Festool FS1080 rail will be
squared against two Super Dogs. These dogs are lockable via an expanding o-ring system...they also have a ring that is chamfered that will fit well in the 20mm holes in table... |
|
A chamfer tool is used to
make the Super Dog chamfer ring sit correctly |
|
Two clips are used to stabilize
the rail |
|
Clips help secure rail fence... |
|
Prior to the Parf fence purchase
I already had four Lee Valley Parf dogs...a pair of short ones @
10 mm... |
|
and a pair of tall ones @ 70 mm Each Parf dog has an M8 threaded hole on the bottom end of the dog...various M8 handles are available for anchoring. |
|
|
|
The location of the static Parf fence setup will result in the cutting edge of the track saw to be in the middle section of the MFT3 table surface.
One 600 mm Parf fence...hanging
off the table top about 85 mm...comes out ~ 512 mm onto the table. The kerf will be at ~ 552 from the right to left... |

was to cut... |

This is how close the other
fence can be once I have a second fence. |

This is an example of a chamfered dog cap...sitting out proud of the 20 mm hole.
The chamfer tool puts a chamfer along the face of the MFT3 20 mm hole.
The chamfered lip now sits flush. |
