Hephaestus PC Build

The Building of Hephaestus

This build was a new PC for my friend, TJ. He has some special adpative computing needs, he uses Dragon Naturally Speaking voice recognition software and a QuadJoy adaptive mouse to compensate for lack of input ability due to tetraplegia.

In the image below TJ is using a boom microphone for voice recognition software, Click-N-Type on-screen keyboard software, and a QuadJoy mouth-operated joystick for navigation and clicking. The joystick is "customized" with a second "sip and puff" switch that allows TJ to activate his Environmental Control Unit to answer the phone, control the TV, call for assistance, etc.

This box is named for Hephaestus, the Greek god of " technology". Hephaestus was disabled from birth and was unable to use his lower limbs. He used his skills in the field of technology to compensate for his lower limb loss. Thus, he was a symbol for early "Assistive Technology".

Hephaestus is shown here using "robotic girls" as leg ambulation assists. He created these legs in his iron-working underworld lab.
